Institutional Programs (CFI)

The Institutional Programs Office on the Vancouver campus provides administrative and strategic support to all researchers pursuing major federal, provincial and regional infrastructure awards at the Vancouver and Kelowna campuses.

An Institutional Programs Officer in the Okanagan Office of the Vice-Principal Research is available to offer onsite program and grant development support to Okanagan campus researchers applying for research infrastructure funding.

CFI John R. Evans Leaders Fund (JELF) Competitions

Proposals to the John R. Evans Leaders Fund are used to attract faculty in priority areas as identified in the university’s Strategic Research Plan.

Okanagan campus researchers applying for the CFI John R. Evans Leaders Fund should be new recruits to UBC appointed within 24 months of the CFI submission deadline. Please refer to the UBC Okanagan CFI Application Instructions & Deadlines (below) for internal allocations, processes and timelines.

Proposals are vetted internally and only strong proposals are selected for submission to CFI. As internal screening is rigorous, applicants are encouraged to prepare well-developed applications.

One month following the submission to CFI, a matching funds application must be submitted to the British Columbia Knowledge Development Fund (BCKDF). A full BCKDF Step 1 proposal is part of the internal adjudication and selection of proposals. Refer to the BCKDF website for guidelines, application form template and webinar extract. An internal BCKDF application guide is available by request from the CFI Institutional Programs Officer.

  • Notice of Intent for CFI John R. Evans Leaders Fund Proposals 
    The Notice of Intent form must be completed and submitted online by the deadline indicated above. A CWL is required to access this form.
  • Space Request Form
    This form must be submitted to the Space Committee for all space requests related to CFI proposals. For JELF applicants, the space request form will be submitted as part of the NOI and the UBCO Institutional Programs Officer will forward the completed and signed space request form along with the NOI materials to Facilities Planning
  • Facilities Pre-Purchase Equipment Form
    This form(s) must be submitted along with the NOI for each piece of equipment related to the CFI proposal.
  • Research Project Information Form
    Institutional Signatures: Once a proposal has been approved by the internal committee and a final version of the proposal is ready, obtain institutional signatures. No substantive changes (e.g. budget) are permitted after this point. Submit application and signature page to ORS by internal deadline.
