Institutional Programs (CFI)
The Institutional Programs Office on the Vancouver campus provides administrative and strategic support to all researchers pursuing major federal, provincial and regional infrastructure awards at the Vancouver and Kelowna campuses.
An Institutional Programs Officer in the Okanagan Office of the Vice-Principal Research is available to offer onsite program and grant development support to Okanagan campus researchers applying for research infrastructure funding.
Internal processes and timelines specific to the Okanagan Office of Research Services can be found below.
CFI John R. Evans Leaders Fund (JELF) Competitions
Proposals to the John R. Evans Leaders Fund are used to attract faculty in priority areas as identified in the university’s Strategic Research Plan.
Okanagan campus researchers applying for the CFI John R. Evans Leaders Fund should be new recruits to UBC appointed within 24 months of the CFI submission deadline. Please refer to the UBC Okanagan CFI Application Instructions & Deadlines (below) for internal allocations, processes and timelines.
Proposals are vetted internally and only strong proposals are selected for submission to CFI. As internal screening is rigorous, applicants are encouraged to prepare well-developed applications.
One month following the submission to CFI, a matching funds application must be submitted to the British Columbia Knowledge Development Fund (BCKDF). A full BCKDF Step 1 proposal is part of the internal adjudication and selection of proposals. Refer to the BCKDF website for guidelines, application form template and webinar extract. An internal BCKDF application guide is available by request from the CFI Institutional Programs Officer.
Contact the CFI Institutional Programs Officer for program support, 1-on-1 proposal development support, criteria review and editorial assistance on the proposal. Additional resources for writing the CFI and BCKDF proposals are also available upon request.
Information on UBC-wide procedures is available on the Applying for CFI Funding page on the Institutional Programs website. A detailed description of the UBC Okanagan CFI Application Instructions & Deadlines (for UBC Okanagan applicants ONLY) is available here.
