Program Description

NSERC Alliance Advantage grants encourage university researchers to collaborate with partner organizations, which can be from the private, public or not-for-profit sectors. Alliance Advantage grants fund projects focused on partner(s)’ goals, with at least one partner sharing in the costs of research. Projects must advance knowledge in the natural sciences and/or engineering.

Projects can be 1-5 years in length, and NSERC matches direct costs of research from partner funds 2:1. Researchers can request between $20,000 and $1M from NSERC annually, (resulting in annual project budgets ranging from $30,000 to $1.5M annually). Indirect costs of research apply to partner contributions. Applications can be submitted anytime.

Note that all applications with private sector partners must include a validated National Security Risk Assessment form, to be included when submitting an RPIF.
